More news about: Swarthmore

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Swarthmore College Women's Basketball kept playing like it's 2021 on Wednesday night, defeating host McDaniel College 52-46 in their first Centennial Conference action in the new year. With the victory, the Garnet are now 7-2 on the season and 4-1 in conference play.

Dana Bandurick led the scoring for the visitors, posting 24 points to go along with a career-high 18 rebounds to give the Junior her seventh double-double of the year. Alyssa Hayashi added 10 points of her own en route to her second straight double-digit scoring output, while Kim Kockenmeister logged a career-high 37 minutes for Swarthmore.

The Garnet got off to a quick start out of the gates, opening with a 16-4 run that included five points from Bandurick and four from Hayashi. The Green Terror were able to slow Swarthmore's pace in the second quarter, though, gaining enough ground to cut the Garnet lead to nine at the half.

McDaniel maintained their momentum into the third frame, coming back to within four before Hayashi, Katelyn Becker, and Norah Wingfield sparked a 7-0 run for the visitors.

The fourth quarter proved to be a back-and-forth affair, as the Green Terror rallied late to make it a one-posession game with 26 seconds left to play. After a Garnet timeout, Bandurick was able to weave through the defense to drain a clutch layup in the paint to extend Swarthmore's lead to five. A few ticks of the clock later, Becker hit her third free-throw of the night to seal the win and drop McDaniel's season record to 3-7 (1-4 CC).

The Garnet will be in action again on Saturday, January 8, when they host Centennial Conference rival Franklin & Marshall College (5-6, 3-3 CC). Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM, and the game will be broadcast live on the Centennial Conference Digital Network.
