Carroll Women Win Two Straight to Finish Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Carroll University women's basketball team came back from an ugly start to finish 2-0 in the Daytona Beach Shootout, picking up a win against Centre 64-37. Katie Rohner finished with 17 points in 19 minutes with 3-5 3PM, a team-high seven rebounds, and three assists. Chloe Halverson finished with 12 points on 6-7 shooting off the bench.
 
The Pioneers (8-3, 1-3 CCIW) remain perfect this season against non-conference opponents. The Pios held their opponent to under 40% shooting from the floor for the third straight game. Carroll dropped 40 points in the paint, while still struggling to find their stroke behind the arc. Carroll picked up 17 rebounds for the third straight game to tie the season-high mark. Carroll led by as much as 33 points late in the fourth quarter and led for over 27 minutes in the game.
 
The Pioneers shot just 17.6%, shooting 3-7 and 0-9 from three to start the game. Brooke Foster (3 PTS, 3 STL) made the first basket of the game at the 6:41 mark of the quarter. Centre went up 9-2 midway through the period, and bench points from Halverson and Allison Thompson (8 PTS, 2 BLKS) to cut the deficit to three. Carroll tied the game at 11 all with Katie Rohner's first three-point basket of the game. Rohner scored eight of the next ten Carroll points to put the Pios up 20-13 with 5:47 left in the first half. Carroll finished on a 6-0 run to end the half and went to halftime up 28-17.
 
Elizabeth Behrndt (5 PTS, 5 REB) scored the first bucket of the second half three minutes into the action as they opened up a 7-2 through the first five minutes. Carroll led by as much as 19, capped off by an offensive rebound and basket scored by Halverson to end the quarter. Carroll broke the 20-point lead barrier with Katie Evans' (3 PTS) three-point basket on the first possession of the fourth quarter. Carroll went up 33 points with 3:05 left in the game as Lindsay Schultz began to empty her bench.
 
Carroll's game scheduled for Wednesday, December 29 against Marian has been postponed. The next game scheduled is the Pioneers' make-up game with top 25 ranked UW-Whitewater on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at 1 PM.
