Hood falls short at Albright

READING, Pa. - Hood College's Tiffany Manning had a career-high 27 points and 12 rebounds but Albrights' three double-digit scorers led a 60-57 win over the Blazers in Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth action. 

Inside the Box Score 

  • Manning recorded career highs in both categories and notched her second career double-double of the season. The sophomore went 11-of-19 from the field and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line. 

  • Morgan Anderson grabbed 10 rebounds and a game-high six steals. 

  • Marlise Newson added nine points and three steals. 

How it Happened 

  • The first back-to-back 3-pointers by Maggie O'Hare gave the Lions their first lead since the second quarter and the second made the score 55-53 in favor of Albright with 1:35 left in the game. A pair of free throws by Manning tied the game with 1:14 remaining, but a layup by Brady Wassel put Albright in front 57-55 with 56 seconds left. Free throws by Aubrey Gaffney extended the lead to four which resulted in a Blazers' timeout. Hood inbounded and a pass from Manning led Newson to the basket, cutting the deficit to two points. A foul by Manning to stop the clock sent O'Hare to the free throw line to seal the win. 

  • A layup by Anderson started a 12-2 run to give the Blazers a 10-point advantage, 40-30 with 3:26 left in the third. Free throws by Manning gave Hood a seven-point lead to close the third quarter 44-37. 

  • Hood opened the second quarter with an 11-0 run and led 27-19 with 4:27 remaining. The Lions' Amina Rauf answered with a pair of 3-pointers that built a 9-1 run to head into halftime 28-28. 

  • Hood took an early lead in the first quarter before the Lions answered with an 11-4 run. Rauf started the surge with the first of her three 3-pointers of the period for a 13-8 lead with 5:32 to go in the period. Hood trailed 19-16 to end period, despite eight points by Manning. 

Analysis 

  • Hood entered the day ranked third in Division III in 3-point field goal defense, holding foes to just 16.5 percent, but Albright had the answer, shooting 42 percent (11-of-26) from 3-point range.  

  • The Blazers edged the Lions 10-4 in second chance points and held a 46-16 advantage in points in the paint. 

  • Albright outrebounded the Blazers 44-41. 

  • Hood committed just 13 turnovers in the contest, compared to 23 for the Lions, as the Blazers outscored Albright 24-9 off turnovers. 

For the opponent 

  • Rauf finished with 22 points going 6-of-9 from beyond the arc and shooting 50 percent from the field (8-of-16). 

  • Wassel and O'Hare scored 14 points each. Wassel notched 11 rebounds, while O'Hare added six boards. 

  • Gabby Boggs led all players with 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots. 

Notes 

  • The Blazers levelled their record at 4-4 in the season, and 1-2 in the MAC Commonwealth. Albright improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
