Rodriguez Sets Program’s Single-Game Assists Record, Top 10 All-time in D3 as NJCU Women’s Basketball Routs CCNY 120-26

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The New Jersey City University women's basketball team looked near-flawless in its non-conference tune-up victory over the City College of New York on Monday night, Dec. 6, on Coach Charlie Brown Court in the friendly confines of the John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center (JMAC). The Gothic Knights topped CCNY 120-26 – the second-most points in a game in program history – while sophomore Damaris Rodriguez (Secaucus, N.J./Secaucus) set the program's single-game assists record (18), which puts her in the top 10 all-time in the Division III record book for single-game assists – she's tied for fourth overall.
 
NJCU (3-0) started of extremely quickly against the Beavers (0-3) and jumped out to 25-point, 38-13 lead after the first quarter of play. Junior Laney Fox (Parkland, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) had the hot hand early, going 3-for-4 form long range and 4-for-6 overall in the first to notch 11 points. She finished the night with a season-high 19 points. Jersey City held CCNY to single-digits scoring in each of the remaining three periods, outscoring the Beavers 23-4 in the second, 34-7 in the third and 25-2 in the fourth quarter. As a team, NJCU set single-game record in made field goals (51) and point margin (94), as well.
 
Eight of the nine Gothic Knights that saw the floor on Monday finished in double-figures scoring, led by junior Jada Camacho's (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson) game-high 21 points – she finished with 10 rebounds to seal the double-double as well. Freshman Liyah Allen (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) totaled 18 points and was once again one board off from a double-double with nine rebounds.
 
Another rookie, Taija'Ney McCollum (Carteret, N.J./Carteret) notched 15 points, while senior Emily Ruiz (Jersey City, N.J./Dickinson (via County Prep)) made her season-debut and poured in a career-best 12 points to surpass her previous mark of five set as a freshman in 2018-19. Rodriguez finished with her second double-double of the season and of her career by chipping in 14 points to go with six steals. Junior Jimmirah Johnson (Prospect Park, N.J./International) and freshman Olivia Wooten (East Orange, N.J./Immaculate Conception) each scored 10 points as well.
