Baruch Bearcats Defeat Hunter Hawks 63-61 in OT

The women's basketball team started the CUNYAC portion of their schedule with an exciting 63-61 overtime victory against the Hawks of Hunter College on Friday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.

The two rivals were tied at 61 in overtime with about 25 seconds left and Hunter had the final possession seeking to take the last shot. The Hawks were working the ball around when Mia Castillo stole a pass and went cross court for a layup that gave the Bearcats a 63-61 advantage with a few seconds left (video below).

The Hawks quickly called a timeout and drew up a final play but the Bearcats defended it to hold on to the victory to end a four-game losing streak to the Hawks.

The visiting Bearcats scored 21 points off 26 turnovers by the Hawks and notched a season-high 15 steals during the contest.

Milly Ye came up clutch all game scoring a career-high 20 points to go along with five steals.

Castillo finished with a near double-double of 16 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists. 

Elissa Leung (12 points, three assists) and Valsenia Michie (11 points, three steals) also contributed in the tough win.

Hunter shot 32 percent (23-for-71) and were led in the scoring column by Kimberly Lau with 14 points.
