LANCASTER, Pa. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team made it three wins in a row to start the 2021 season, parlaying another blistering start into a 77-32 decision over the Lancaster Bible Chargers on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the third straight game, the Sea Gulls opened on a double-digit scoring run, this time hanging 15 straight before the Chargers broke up the shutout. Kaylee Otlowski got things going with a layup just over a minute into the action, followed by a Lauren Fortescue jumper and a three-point play from Otlowski at the 7:11 mark of the first quarter.
- Amber Onyekwere added a three-point play of her own a minute later, then Kylie Webb downed a trey to make it 13-0 not even four minutes in. The Sea Gulls then went cold for a three-minute stretch, but Otlowski's layup at the 3:26 mark made it a 15-0 start for the visitors.
- LBC finally got on the board with a layup with 3:14 to go in the opening period, followed immediately by an 11-0 Salisbury run over the next two-and-a-half minutes. Kolby Brown scored the final five points of that run, knocking down a three and hitting a pair of free throws in a 17-second span. The Chargers broke that Sea Gull flurry with a three-pointer at the buzzer, making it a 26-5 SU advantage after the first 10 minutes.
- Salisbury owned the paint in the second quarter, converting seven field goals from down low. Otlowski's short-range jumper with 21 seconds left made it a 46-18 margin over Lancaster Bible at halftime.
- The Sea Gulls turned up the defensive heat in the third, keeping LBC off the scoreboard for the entire quarter. The Chargers wouldn't score again until a triple at the 9:09 mark of the fourth, breaking up a nearly 13-minute scoring drought that saw the SU lead balloon from 39-18 to 60-18.
- Salisbury again emptied its bench in the fourth quarter, with seven reserves accounting for 17 of the team's 19 points in the final session.
