AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball head coach Cheri Harrer has been named the 2019-2020 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Coach of the Year, while four of her players have also been chosen to represent this year's All-OAC team.
Harrer is joined in this season's OAC awards announcements by senior guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Village/Elyria Catholic), senior guards/forwards Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) and Kara Marshall (Copley/Akron Archbishop Hoban), and sophomore forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman). Both Schill and Fecht appear on the All-OAC first team, while Marshall lands on its second team, and Edwards emerges as an honorable mention.
Harrer earns her fifth career OAC Coach of the Year Award in her 30th season at the helm of the BW women's basktball program. She led the Yellow Jackets to a 17-1 OAC record, and an overall record of 26-2 thus far. Harrer helped BW capture its first OAC regular season title since 2013-14 and its first OAC Tournament Championship since 2015. It marks the first title sweep for Harrer and the Yellow Jackets since the 2007-08 season. Her team is also set to appear in its second consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament, via automatic bid. One of her many season highlights includes earning her 600th career win against Muskingum Univeristy on Feburary 1. For her legendary career, Harrer boasts an overall record of 610-223 (.732), an OAC record of 398-140 (.740), nine OAC regular season titles, seven OAC Tournament championships, 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, and three trips to the NCAA Tournament's "Elite Eight".
Schill earns her third career All-OAC selection, and lands on its first team for the first time. The senior has led the team with averages of 11.6 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Her steals and assists per game are also good enough for second and fifth place amongst 2019-20 OAC statistical leaders, respectively. Her 88.5 free throw percentage is tops in the OAC and eighth in all of NCAA Division III as well.
Fecht earns her third career All-OAC selection, and lands on its first team for the second time. The senior has led the team with an average of 0.7 blocks per game, and she is second on the squad with 10.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Her 41.6 three-point percentage is the highest on her team and ranks second in the OAC as well. Fecht's season has been highlighted by a Most Valuable Player performance in the OAC Tournament, and by setting the program single-game three-pointers made record with seven against Otterbein University on January 11.
Marshall earns her first career All-OAC selection. The senior has garnered career-highs in points, assists, and steals per game, with 8.7, 1.3, and 0.9, respectively. Some of her season highlights include a Most Valuable Player performance in the season-opening Chuck Resler Tournament, an OAC Player of the Week selection on December 23, and an appearance on the All-OAC Tournament team.
Edwards earns her second career All-OAC selection, and lands on the list of honorable mentions for the first time. One of BW's integral leaders off the bench and a strong presence near the rim, Edwards has provided valuable contributions for the Yellow Jackets with 8.5 points, and a team-leading 5.3 boards per game.
The Yellow Jackets will host Haverford (Pa.) College in the 2020 NCAA Tournament's first round on Friday, March 6, at 7:00 p.m. in Ursprung Gymnasium.
