Wodicka's Career Night Helps Push Blue Jays Past Bears

How it Happened
Senior Maggie Wodicka drove around a defender and converted a go-ahead layup with 42 seconds left in Saturday afternoon's 64-62 road victory for Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays trailed 58-56 with 2:08 remaining before outscoring Ursinus 8-4 to close out a crucial Centennial Conference win. 
 
Despite leading 37-26 at halftime of the contest, the Blue Jays found themselves trailing by one point entering the final quarter. Diarra Oden split a pair of free throws at the 8:44 mark of the fourth, tying the contest at 49. Erin Walsh rebounded the missed second free throw and converted to retake the lead for the Blue Jays. Aliyah Stephens forced a turnover, taking the ball coast-to-coast for a layup plus the foul, giving Ursinus a 52-51 lead after the made free throw. 

Wodicka answered with a put-back layup off a Walsh miss at the 6:46 mark, once again putting Johns Hopkins in the lead. Trailing 54-52, Marissa Morano hit a pull-up jumper to tie the game at 54-54 with 5:47 remaining. Tied at 56 all with just over two minutes to play, Alyssa Martin hit a jumper to give Ursinus their final lead before Walsh tied it at 58 off a beautiful feed from Oden.

A few possessions later, Wodicka started at the top of the key, drove right and converted over her defender to give Johns Hopkins the lead. Emily Howie made four straight free throws down the stretch to put away the Bears. 
 
Both teams got off to hot starts, with the game sitting at 10-10 less than four minutes in after a Stephens and-one. Stephens hit another layup with 2:21 to play in the first, giving Urisnus an 18-12 lead. Walsh scored on the next possession and Howie hit a late three to make it 18-17 at the end of the first. 

Hopkins dominated the second quarter, shooting 50 percent from the field and knocking down three threes while outscoring the Bears 20-8. Oden scored eight of her team-high 18 points in the second to lead the Blue Jays. 

Ursinus bounced right back in the third period, shooting a scorching 77 percent from the field in the quarter. The Bears outscored Hopkins 23-11, allowing them to take the lead late in the quarter. JHU led for just under 21 minutes in the contest while Ursinus was on top for a little more than 12 minutes overall. 
 
What it Means
• Johns Hopkins will likely maintain a one-game lead on Dickinson in the race for third place in the Centennial Conference as the Blue Jays are now 12-6 in league play.  The Red Devils, opened up a big lead over Bryn Mawr at the time of publication.
• The Blue Jays are now 41-9 all-time against Ursinus after 50 all-time meetings. Johns Hopkins has won seven straight dating back to 2017. 
 
Inside the Box Score
•  Wodicka set new career highs in both points and rebounds with 14 and nine respectively. 
•  With two three-pointers in the contest, Howie is now just four threes away from tying Kristen McKee's single-season record of 59.
•  The Blue Jays set a new season-high, grabbing an impressive 25 offensive rebounds. Nine different players had at least one offensive rebound, led by Walsh with seven.
•  For Ursinus, Lydia Konstanzer had a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds on her senior day.
