Williamstown, Mass. – Emily Chang's career-high 30 points propelled the Williams Ephs to an 83-76 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball action this afternoon.  Trinity falls to 15-5 overall and 4-2 in the NESCAC with its first loss in seven games.  Williams is now 16-5 overall and 5-2 in the league.  Trinity visits No. 2-ranked Tufts in its next game on Friday at 7 p.m.  Senior tri-captain Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) led the Bantams with 26 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.

Trinity scored the first two buckets of the game on layups by rookie Bria Fuller (Springdale, Md.) and sophomore center Elizabeth Althoff (Staten Island, N.Y.), but Williams' Maggie Meehan (Southington, Conn.) hit the first of her three treys in the first quarter to put the Ephs ahead, 10-9, and the home squad stayed ahead the rest of the way.  Williams closed the opening stanza with a 7-0 run to lead, 23-14, at the first break. The Ephs' momentum continued into the next quarter and Williams, led, 30-14, after a Chang three-pointer at the 8:11 mark.  Trailing by as many as 19 points in the second frame, the Bantams fought back and scored 10 of the final 11 points before halftime.  Trinity rookie guard Madison Stevens (Burlington, Conn.) capped off the run with a basket inside in the final minute to make the score, 38-29, at halftime. 

Chang opened the third quarter with another long ball to push Williams' advantage back into double digits, and her eighth trey of the contest gave the Ephs a 66-46 lead at the final rest.  The Bantams were down by 21 points at 68-49 with nine minutes left in the game, but cut their deficit to two possessions at 79-74 with 40 seconds remaining with a heroic, 30-point fourth-quarter effort.  Kabari had 13 points in the final period, including a free throw with 40 seconds left to make it a five-point game.  Chang and Meehan each made a pair of clutch free throws sandwiched around a Fuller layup with seven seconds left, and the Bantams ran out of time.

Trinity outrebounded the Ephs 41-32 and outscored them in the paint, 46-18, but 14 three-pointers in 28 attempts by the Ephs was too much to overcome.  Althoff and Fuller joined Kabari in double figures in scoring with 13 points each, while Althoff added eight rebounds.  Chang finished 8-for-14 from long range and 9-for-15 overall from the field for her 30 points.  Meehan scored 19 points, including four treys, and Mikaela Topper  added 16 points and five rebounds for Williams.
