CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball handed Husson University their first loss in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Tuesday night, with a 58-48 victory in the regular season finale for both teams inside of Smith Gymnasium.

How it Happened: The Eagles held a 16-10 lead after the first quarter, but Maine Maritime's offense erupted in the second quarter, pouring in 22 points on 71.4 percent shooting from the floor, while holding Husson to just seven points, to take a 32-23 lead into halftime.

The Mariners picked up where they left off in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 15-11 to take a 47-34 lead into the final quarter. Husson went to the line 11 times in the final quarter, accounting for 10 of the team's 14 fourth quarter points, but the Mariners kept the visitors at bay and cruised to the double-digit victory. This is the Mariners' first win over the conference rival since 2013.

Inside the Numbers: Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) led the Mariners with 16 points, two rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block. Reigning NAC and MWBCA Rookie of the Week, Lauren Plissey (Hermon, Maine) tallied her first-career double-double with a career-high 13 rebounds and career-high 11 points, while also contributing four assists and three blocks.

Kenzie Worcester led the Eagles with 20 points, five rebounds and a steal, while teammate Megan Peach recorded a double-double of 14 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks, two assists and a steal.

The Mariners shot 42.2 percent from the floor, and 33.3 percent from behind the arc, while Husson shot just 26.4 percent on the night and 6.7 percent from three-point land. Maine Maritime also won the battle of the boards, 36-33.

Up Next: The Mariners conclude the regular season at 18-6 overall and 12-2 in conference play. The Eagles wrap up regular season play at 17-8 and 13-1 in the NAC. Both teams now await playoff seedings and opponents, which will be announced tomorrow night at the conclusion of all conference regular season contests. The NAC Quarterfinals will begin on Saturday, February 16.
