WAYNE, N.J. – Senior Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) finished with a team-high 16 points and classmate CeCe Green (Boonton, N.J./Boonton)added 12 as William Paterson (12-10, 8-7 NJAC) could not overcome a halftime deficit and costly turnovers, ultimately falling to Kean (11-11, 8-7 NJAC) 78-67 in conference play Feb. 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Tied at 13-13 with 2:34 remaining in the opening quarter, Kean scored the next five points to take an 18-13 edge after 10 minutes. The Cougars carried the momentum into the second stanza, scoring 20 of the next 28 points to open a commanding 17-point lead (38-21, 2:32). The Pioneers would respond by closing the period on an 8-0 run, highlighted by Green's half-court buzzer beater, to trail 38-29 at the break.
  • The third quarter belonged to the Cougars, as the visitors outscored WP 28-13 and led 66-42 heading into the final period. Three-pointers by Rovito, Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and Chloe Kasbarian (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) punctuated a 22-7 burst as William Paterson got it to single digits, 73-64, with 2:24 left on the clock. However, Kean made enough shots down the stretch, including four free throws, to ice the game and secure the win.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Giordano tied her season-high with nine rebounds to go along with 13 points. Rovito filled the stat sheet with 16 points and season-best seven assists, while Green finished the afternoon with 12 tallies and three boards.
  • WP struggled with turnover all game, committing 28 miscues as compared to just 16 for Kean.
  • Despite the loss, WP remains in fifth place in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) standings with just three games remaining.
