Ripon Dominates First Half En Route To Victory

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon's women's basketball team turned in a dominating performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Grinnell College 73-47, which keeps the Red Hawks tied for second place in the Midwest Conference standings.

Ripon (6-7, 5-1 MWC) never trailed on Saturday, scoring the final 15 points of the first quarter. The Red Hawks held Grinnell (4-9, 2-5 MWC) to just 4 percent (1-for-23) shooting in the first half, while also holding the Pioneers without a point during a 10-minute span. The Red Hawks also outscored Grinnell 17-4 in the second quarter, giving them a commanding 36-6 halftime lead.

Grinnell's offense woke up in the second half, which saw them shoot 46 percent (17-37) from the field. Ripon finished the day shooting 39 percent (26-66) from the field, including 33 percent (9-27) from 3-point range. Twelve of Ripon's 13 players scored at least one point.

Maggie Oimoen led Ripon with 16 points and six rebounds, while Jesi NayLaurissa Johnson, and Annika Anderson each scored nine points. Alyassa Burgess also chipped in with eight points, six rebounds (four offensive), and two assists.

Grinnell was led by 18 points from Tyria Heath, who also recorded four rebounds and two assists. Sasha Thomas was second on the team with eight points.
