Hartford, Conn. – Junior guard Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) had 25 points and five assists to lead the visiting Amherst College Mammoths to a 71-49 victory over the Trinity College Bantams in both teams' New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball opener this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity falls to 10-2 overall, while the No. 7-ranked Mammoths are now 11-1 after their ninth-consecutive victory.  Junior guard Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) had 21 points and a game-high nine boards for the Bantams, who will host league rival Hamilton in their next game on Sunday at 2 p.m.  Amherst entertains NESCAC foe Connecticut College next Friday at 7 p.m.  

Amherst made its first nine shots while jumping out to a 21-4 lead just over five minutes into the game, including 10 points by Fox.  Trinity outscored Amherst, 7-4, to close the opening stanza down, 25-11, but the Fox drilled two of her five treys in the final minute before halftime to give the visitors a 41-21 advantage at the break.  Kabari had a team-high eight points for Trinity at the half, while Fox scored 10 points in each of the first two quarters and teamed with classmate Madeline Eck (Rye, N.Y.) for all 16 Amherst points in the second frame.  Amherst took its largest lead of the night at 60-32 on a free throw by senior co-captain Meghan Sullivan (Granby, Mass.) at the end of the third quarter, while Trinity outscored the Mammoths, 17-11, in the last quarter.  Kabari scored nine points in the final frame.

Trinity had a cold shooting night with a 25.4 percentage from the floor.  Junior guard Meghan Lewis (Demarest, N.J.) scored seven points and made four steals off the Trinity bench, while sophomore guard Allie Morin (Westwood, Mass.) notched four rebounds and three assists.  Amherst finished with a 58.7 shooting percentage and a 56.3 clip from long range, including five of nine long balls by Fox.  Eck finished with 19 points and five rebounds, making seven of her nine attempts from the field, while Mammoth senior co-captain Maeve McNamara (Arlington, Mass.) contributed 10 points and five boards, and freshman center Dani Valdez (Poughkeepsie, NY.) had a team-high six rebounds off the bench.
