LAS VEGAS – The Bullets held an eight-point advantage at the end of the third quarter, but a 28-14 surge by Carthage College in the fourth quarter pushed them past the Gettysburg College women's basketball team on the final day of the D3hoops.com Classic. Carthage (6-5) snapped the Bullets (8-2) eight-game winning streak.
 
Senior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) paced the Orange and Blue with 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. With the 17-point performance, Dorshimer moved into third on the all-time scoring list (1,463), passing Susan Marshall '85 (1,457) and Ann Hymes '96 (1,462). Sophomore Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) accumulated a career-high 17 points, on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Teal Tasker (Chambersburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) and freshman Seanna McNamara (Berwyn, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) snagged six rebounds each.  
 
The Lady Reds held the largest advantage (16-8) in the first quarter after Sammie Woodward made a 3-pointer with 4:35 left. From that point until the end of the frame, the Bullets offense was flowing, outscoring Carthage 12-2. Freshman Mackenzie Tinner (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock High School North) scored four points during the run while McNamara knocked down two 3-pointers, including the one she hit with 45 seconds left to put Gettysburg ahead 20-18.
 
The second quarter was a low scoring affair for both squads as Gettysburg outscored Carthage 11-9. Two ties occurred at the 7:52 and 4:49 markers, while the Bullets held a four-point advantage on three different occasions. A 3-pointer by Dorshimer with 1:51 on the clock helped extend the Gettysburg lead 31-27 at the half.
 
Gettysburg and Carthage exchanged baskets through most of the third quarter before the Bullets started pulling away with 3:27 remaining. Tasker was able to provide a spark for the Gettysburg offense as she drilled a 3-pointer to start the 10-2 run to close the frame with a 48-40 lead. Brown notched seven of the team's 17 points.
 
A jumper by Brown provided the Bullets a five-point cushion (52-47) with 7:38 to go in the fourth quarter. After that, Carthage notched back-to-back-to-back baskets to retake the lead for the first time since the opening frame (53-52). Moments later, junior Emma Hahner (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) connected on a jumper to put the Bullets back ahead by one (54-53). The following four minutes resulted in a battle of the 3-point range as the next five scoring possessions were 3-pointers between Carthage and Gettysburg, with Dorshimer hitting two for the Bullets. Gettysburg was able to come within two points off a layup by Brown with 23 seconds left, but the Lady Reds leading scorer, Bailey Gilbert sank four free throws to take the 68-62 victory. Gilbert scored 12 of her 18 points, including two trey's, to help the team outscore Gettysburg 28-14 in the frame.   
 
Gettysburg went 21-of-54 (38.9 percent) from the field and 14-of-18 (77.8 percent) from the free throw line. Carthage made 24-of-61 (39.3 percent) overall and 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) from the charity stripe. The Lady Reds held the slight rebounding advantage 40-37.
 
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 5, when it hosts Muhlenberg College at 2 p.m.
