Albion soars into holiday break

ALBION, Mich. – Evelyn Wischmyer scored eight of her career-high 26 points during a decisive 23-8 run over eight minutes in the second half as Albion College earned an 87-63 victory over Franklin (Ind.) College in non-league women's basketball action at Kresge Gymnasium.

With the victory, Albion takes a 9-2 record into its holiday break. The Britons will return to campus Dec. 27 for training sessions leading up to a Dec. 30 date at Maryville (Tenn.) College.

Albion was clinging to a 47-45 lead 2 ½ minutes into the third quarter.

The Britons had balanced scoring in the rally with Rain Hinton and Brooke Schutte contributing four points apiece, Maija Gillum chipping in with three and Emily Bernas contributing a basket.

"I was happy with our energy," Albion Head Coach Doreen Carden said after her squad forced Franklin into 31 turnovers. "Our press (defense) was good. Their shooting cooled off as we wore them down."

Wischmeyer, who hit 6-of-9 from 3-point range, stuffed the box score with four steals and three assists.

Hinton, who was 8of-13 from the field and 8-of-9 from the line, added four rebounds and two steals.

Gillum finished with 12 points, knocking down 5-of-10 shots from the field.
