NEW YORK, N.Y – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team earned an impressive victory by defeating The City College of New York, 63-56, at Nat Holman Gymnasium on Sunday evening. Yeshiva advances to 6-7, while CCNY drops to 6-4.

"Great effort by the players tonight," Yeshiva University head coach Michael Alon said. "They are getting better and better at playing in tight games down the stretch, and tonight they pulled through with a big win. They are making great progress."

Senior guard Nicole Bick led all players with 25 points, while distributing five assists, and grabbing three rebounds. Junior forward Tehilla Teigman produced 12 points with eight rebounds and three steals. Senior forward Michal Algeproduced a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while distributing three assists.

The Maccabees got off to a slow start in the opening quarter, falling behind 10-4, with 4:03 remaining. A successful jump shot by sophomore forward Celia Cohen sparked an 8-0 run for Yeshiva. Teigman capped off the rally by forcing a steal and then executing a layup off a fast break to give the Macs a 12-10 advantage, with 50 seconds left to play in the stanza. Freshman guard Imani Butts converted a layup to tie the game, 12-12, with 36 seconds to go, and that would be the score after 10 minutes of play.

Yeshiva trailed 17-15 with 5:43 to go in the half, but a 3-point field goal by sophomore guard Chana Boltax began a stretch of 12 unanswered points scored by Yeshiva, in a span of 2:57. Alge's layup was Yeshiva's 12^th straight point and put the Macs up, 27-17, with 2:55 left before the break. Later in the half, a jump shot by sophomore guard Adina Rosenberg gave YU a commanding 31-20 advantage. CCNY pulled closer, but Teigman drew a foul with one second remaining. She successfully converted both shots from the charity stripe to give the Maccabees a 33-23 cushion at the break.

Bick launched a 3-point field goal, just 11 seconds into the second half, to extend Yeshiva's lead to 36-23. Later in the third, Bick drained another shot from beyond the arc to give YU its largest lead of the evening, at 43-27, with 6:44 remaining in the period. The Beavers rallied to pull to within nine, but Bick halted the opposition's momentum by converting a layup and being fouled at the same time. She hit the free throw to complete the traditional 3-point play and put the Maccabees up, 49-37, with 40 seconds remaining in the third. Rosenberg added a free throw with seven seconds to go, and Yeshiva entered the fourth with a 50-37 hold.

The Beavers stormed out of the gate in the final quarter of regulation, scoring the period's first 12 points to narrow the Maccabees' lead to 50-49, with 5:48 left to play. Bick converted a free throw to score Yeshiva's first point of the period, 4:30 into the stanza. CCNY would complete the rally, thanks to a layup by junior guard Aaliyah McCrae, to tie the game at 52 with 2:11 remaining in regulation. Alge nailed two key free throws with 1:52 left, to allow YU to regain the lead at 54-52.

After CCNY tied the game again, it was Bick's turn to break the tie with two clutch free throws, to put YU up by a score of 56-54, with 1:12 remaining in the fourth. On CCNY's next possession, Rosenberg forced a steal and then was fouled. She went 1-for-2 from the line to extend YU's lead to three. After Yeshiva's defense held City College scoreless on the next possession, Alge fed the ball to sophomore forward Lindsay Brandwein, who connected on a jump shot to extend the Macs' lead to five, at 59-54, with 24 ticks left on the clock.  

The Maccabees' defense once again held the Beavers scoreless on the next possession, and the home team had no choice but to intentionally foul Alge. With 15 seconds remaining, Alge nailed both shots from the charity stripe to all but clinch the game for the Blue and White. Yeshiva went on to win the game, 63-56.

For the game, Brandwein scored four points with seven boards. Cohen and Rosenberg each produced four points and brought down a carom, with the former forcing three steals and the latter collecting five steals. Boltax added three rebounds.

Yeshiva will be on the road again on Wednesday, for a non-conference matchup against the College of New Rochelle, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
