NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Yeshiva University women's basketball team earned an impressive non-conference victory over the King's College (N.Y.), 69-43, at the ARC Arena on Thursday evening. The Maccabees advance to 2-1, while the Lions drop to 0-1.

"The team played hard all game," Yeshiva University head coach Michael Alon said. "I am really proud of them."

Leading the way for the Maccabees was junior forward Tehilla Teigman, who scored a team-high 17 points, while clutching six rebounds and forcing four steals. Senior forward Michal Alge had a solid game with 12 points, eight boards, a game-high seven steals, and four assists. Classmate Nicole Bick added 15 points, brought down a pair of caroms, and had just as many dimes.

Yeshiva got off to a slow start, falling behind 7-0. The Maccabees turned it around by scoring six straight points, highlighted by a jump shot from sophomore forward Lindsay Brandwein, to pull Yeshiva to within one. With less than a minute to go in the quarter, Teigman successfully converted a jump shot to tie the game, 14-14. The period ended with the Maccabees down by two.

The Macs had a strong second quarter, outscoring the visitors by a 20-6 margin. During the frame, Alge nailed a jumper to give the Maccabees their first lead of the game, 17-16, just over two minutes in. Alge would strike again on the next possession, forcing a steal and finding sophomore forward Celia Cohen, who was able to lay the ball up and in to extend YU's lead to three.

After the Lions pulled to within one, the Maccabees scored six unanswered points, capped off by a pair of free throws from Teigman, to increase the home team's lead to 25-18 with 5:14 remaining until the half. The turning point of the game was Yeshiva scoring six unanswered points in the final 3:36 of the stanza, to give the home team a commanding 34-22 lead at the break.

The Maccabees' momentum carried over into the third quarter, as the home team broke the game open with a 12-0 run in a span of 3:13 to take a 49-25 advantage. The run was capped off by a jump shot from sophomore guard Adina Rosenberg. The Lions countered with eight unanswered points to pull to within 16, but a 3-point field goal by junior forward Ellie Parker in the closing minute extended YU's lead to 52-33, and that would be the score after three quarters of play.

In the fourth, Bick drilled a shot from beyond the arc to put King's in a 60-37 hole. At the 7:24 mark of the period, Alge hit a jump shot to put YU up by 25 points. Yeshiva would gradually increase its advantage throughout the quarter. With 38 seconds left to play, sophomore guard Lauren Rudberg converted a jumper to give the Maccabees their largest lead of the game, 69-40. Yeshiva went on to win the contest, 69-43.

For the game, Brandwein produced six points. Cohen and Rosenberg each scored four, with the former grabbing two rebounds and the latter forcing a steal. Parker produced three points, brought down four boards, and forced a steal. Senior guard Penny Rabin scored two points, had just as many rebounds, and collected a steal, while junior guard Rachel Kahen added two points of her own.

Sophomore guard Chana Boltax and first-year guard Tova Mamann each scored a point, with the former grabbing two rebounds, forcing two steals, and dishing out an assist. Mamann distributed an assist of her own. Freshman forward Elizabeth Pavel brought down two boards, while sophomore guard Leah Shulman had an assist with a steal.

For King's, sophomore forward Bailey Kaufman produced a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Yeshiva will open Skyline Conference play on Monday, as the Maccabees host the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College, at the ARC Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
