Fourth quarter surge lifts Albion past Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Rain Hinton and Evelyn Wischmeyer combined for 20 points in the fourth quarter as Albion College escaped with a 62-51 victory over Kalamazoo College in Wednesday night Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball action.

Kalamazoo led 38-36 after three quarters, but Albion outscored the Hornets, 26-13, over the final 10 minutes.

Albion started the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run. Hinton scored five points, Wischmeyer buried a 3-point basket and Jami Hubbard tacked on a pair of free throws.

Kalamazoo forged a tie at 48, but Albion reeled off a 12-0 run to seize control of the contest. Hinton scored two baskets and Wischmeyer added a basket and two free throws.

Hinton achieved her fifth double-double of the season with a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. She knocked down 12-of-22 shots from the field.

Wischmeyer was Albion's other double figure scorer with 10.

Albion (17-7 overall, 10-5 MIAA) completes the regular season with a 3 o'clock Saturday home game against Saint Mary's College. The Britons will pause to recognize seniors Catie Neary, Erin Nelson and Tierra Orban prior to the tip.
