#20 Rochester Rolls Past Case Western Reserve University

CLEVELAND – Alexandra Leslie scored 22 points in 18 minutes while Lauren Deming added 11 points and 10 rebounds in 19 minutes as the University of Rochester rolled past Case Western Reserve University, 81-49, in Horsburgh Gymnasium on Friday night.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Yellowjackets. Rochester improved to 17-4 overall, 7-3 in the University Athletic Association. UR is ranked #20 in the D3hoops.com media poll and #18 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll. Case Western Reserve is 4-16 overall, 1-9 in the UAA.

Rochester remains tied for second place in the UAA standings with Washington (MO) University. UR and WU split their two games a week apart with the home team winning each time. The University of Chicago defeated NYU on Friday night and stays three games ahead in the race (10-0 vs. 7-3) with four games left. The UAA regular season champion gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The UAA is the only one of 43 Division III leagues that does not sponsor a post-season tournament.

Thirteen players scored for the Yellowjackets. Brynn Lauer had five points, seven assists, and one steal in 19 minutes. Lauren Foley scored 12 points, all outside the arc (4-6). Brenna James scored six points, handed out two assists, and made five of Rochester's 13 steals.

For CWRU, Emma Cain had a team-high 14 points, hitting 7 of 13 from the floor. Kendall McConico and Hillary Hellman scored eight points each. Rebecca Rowlands led all rebounders with 11.

Rochester scored 27 points off 22 CWRU turnovers. The Yellowjackets led, 23-17, after one. They pulled away in the second and third quarters, combining to outscore the Spartans 40-11 in that stretch. Case had difficulty finding an offensive rhythm. The hosts made just five of 28 floor shots in the second and third quarters. Rochester was a combined 16 of 30 from the field in that stretch. UR led, 38-20, at the half, and 63-28 heading into the fourth quarter.
