FROSTBURG, Md. -- For the third time in the last four games, the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team scored 90+ points and ran away with a conference victory, surging past Frostburg State for a 99-49 victory. It was the second straight and third total 50+ point victory of the season for the Captains, who notched a season-high in the scoring column while improving to 15-2 overall, 9-1 in conference play.

The Captains offense has averaged 91 points per game during the current four-game win streak in league action, while holding those same four opponents to just 55.3 points per game. The three-point shooting was deadly on Saturday as CNU knocked down 12 of 17 attempts from beyond the arc for a season-best 70.6% from long range.

On the other end of the floor, the Captains defense continues to frustrate opposing offenses, picking up 28 steals while forcing 43 Bobcat turnovers. The Captains scored 44 points off of turnovers, accounting for nearly half of the total scoring in the game.

The wire-to-wire victory was the first time all season that all 16 players who saw the floor for CNU managed to get into the scorebook. The balanced effort was led by sophomore Kiana Kirkland, who scored a team-high 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor. Senior Bailey Dufrene also finished in double figures with 12 points, including a strong 5-of-6 performance from the free-throw line.

Kirkland was 3-for-3 from deep, leading the impressive shooting performance from beyond the arc, that saw eight different Captains register at least one three-pointer made. Rookie Jasmine Norman was 2-for-2 and senior Makenzie Fancher, the reigning CAC Player of the Week, also added a pair.

CNU held a 20-point lead at halftime, but more than doubled that mark after the third quarter with a 32-5 performance in the stanza. CNU shot 11-of-24 from the field and 4-of-5 from three-point land in the third quarter. Defensively, the Captains forced 13 turnovers and held Frostburg State to just 2-of-10 from the floor in one of the finest defensive quarters of the season. Kirkland scored seven points and Micah Maloney added six while ten different players factored into the third quarter burst.

Not one Captain played more than 19 minutes in the game as head coach Bill Broderick was able to extend the bench and get all 16 players multiple field goal attempts in the game. Erin Carroll returned to the lineup after missing the last four games and knocked down a triple while sophomore Annemarie Beran scored eight points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds in relief. Hannah MacDonald also had a strong performance with seven points, including a three-pointer, in 10 minutes of action.

The Bobcats were led by Sydney Stotler, with 12 points and 9 rebounds, while Kayla Wilson added 15 points off the bench. Frostburg State slipped to 8-9, 4-6 on the season following the setback.

CNU will return home for a matchup against St. Mary's College (Md.) on Wednesday, January 24. Tip against the Seahawks is set for 5:30 pm at the Freeman Center.
