The women's basketball team brought their 'A' defensive game to Hutton Arena Wednesday night -- and came away with their first winning streak of the season.

The Pipers ballhawked a school record 24 steals and forced 33 turnovers to win their second game in a row, 60-44, over St. Olaf at Hutton Arena. Kaeli Stayer, Alaina Quaranta and Reilly Geistfeld scored 11 points to lead the offense. But it was the defense that was the story of the night. Morgen Coleman had seven steals with Quaranta and Geistfeld coming up with six apiece.  Coleman also had six rebounds as HU, now 4-12 on the season (3-6 MIAC) finished the game with a 39-38 advantage on the boards.

The Pipers started fast, grabbing a 11-0 lead in the first 2:44 of play. The Oles slowly got back in the game, taking a brief lead in the second stanza. It was 15-15 with 2:45 left in the half when the Pipers went on a 9-2 tear for a 24-17 intermission edge.  They picked up the pace even more in the third quarter, advancing the lead to 15 at 37-33 by quarter's end. The lead expanded to 27 in the fourth quarter before head coach Alex Focke cleared his bench. Nine different players had rebounds and six were credited with steals.

HU stays on their home court Saturday, January 20 when they face St. Mary's (9-7, 4-5 MIAC). Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
