KING'S WOMEN FALL AT LYCOMING, 62-55

WILLIAMSPORT -- The host Lycoming College women's basketball team broke open a 39-39 game entering the fourth quarter by outscoring King's College 23-16 over the game's final 10 minutes as the Warriors posted a 62-55 non-conference victory Monday night in Williamsport.

With the win, Lycoming improved to 11-3 while King's slipped to 7-6.

After the team played to an 11-11 draw after one period, Lycoming scored the first seven points of the second quarter to go ahead 18-11 after a three-pointer by Morgan Mader with 6:48 left in the half.

King's countered with an inside bucket by Rebecca Prociak and a short jumper from Rachael DeTore to cut the gap to 18-15 with 4:31 on the clock. Lycoming used a McFadden jumper to go ahead 20-15 before DeTore made one-of-two free throws to bring the Lady Monarchs to within 20-16 at the 3:40 mark.

Lycoming answered with a Shelby Mueller lay-up but Prociak responded with a lay-up of her own to cut the score to up the score to 22-18 with 2:25 left in the opening stanza. 

McFadden would then convert a traditional three-point play to give the Warriors a 25-18 advantage, and, after a King's turnover, Mueller added a jumper to push the score to 27-18 with 1:42 to go.

But King's used a three-pointer by Mackenzie Yori, then another from Erin Schmidt with 1:05 on the clock to bring the Lady Monarchs to within 27-24 at the break.

King's continued to battle at the start of the third quarter when Alexis Steeber scored on a driving lay-up to cut the lead to 27-26, but Mueller responded with an inside basket to give the Warriors a 29-26 advantage. 

Prociak then scored inside and Steeber made two free throws to give King's a 30-29 lead with 6:07 on the clock. After a Lycoming turnover. Prociak was fouled and made one-of-two attempts to put King's ahead 31-29 with 5:15 left.

Lycoming eventually built a 39-37 lead after McFadden made two free throws with 0:26 remaining, but Steeber drained a 10-foot jumper at the buzzer to tie the game at 39-39 heading into the final quarter of play.

The Warriors used an 8-4 surge to move ahead 47-43 on a Mader three-pointer. After Prociak scored for King's, Lycoming received a jumper from Mueller and a three-pointer by McFadden to push the score to 52-45 with 4:30 to play.

After a Yori jumper and a Prociak bucket down low, King's closed to within 52-49 with 2:49 to go.  But consecutive jumpers by Hailey Fricke jumper and Tori Talanca upped the score to 56-49 with 1:57 left.  King's would draw no closer than five points the rest of the way.

Prociak finished with her fifth double-double of the year, scoring 16 points with 13 rebounds. Steeber followed with 15 points and seven boards while Yori added 14 points and four rebounds.  DeTore chipped in with five points as only six King's players reached the scoring column.

King's shot just 29.2 (21-72) percent from the field, 23.8 (5-21) percent from three-point range, and 61.5 (8-13) percent from the foul line.

Mueller led Lycoming with 18 points while McFadden added 16 points.

King's returns to action Wednesday at 8:00 PM against defending MAC Freedom Conference champion FDU-Florham.
