Taylor Collects 1,000 Points as Sewanee Takes Down Wooster in Sewanee Holiday Classic Opener

 SEWANEE, Tenn. - With 999 points coming into tonight's contest, Bella Taylor collected her 1,000th and 1,001st points of her career on the first bucket of the game. The rest would belong to the Tigers, as they defeated the Fighting Scots of Wooster, 69-56, Friday night inside Juhan Gymnasium in the first game of the Sewanee Holiday Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-On Sewanee's second possession of the contest, Bella Taylor cruised from the right side of the box and drained a layup to push her over the 1,000-point mark in her career.

-From there, the matchup was fairly even, as each team made nine field goals in the opening quarter, but it was Sewanee who led 23-21 after 10 minutes.

-Defense was the story in the second frame, as the teams combined for 20 points. Wooster had the upper hand, 11-9, to tie the contest at 32 entering intermission.

-The Tigers would limit the turnovers to three and collected 12 rebounds, four offensive boards, to give the home team the 46-43 advantage headed into the fourth quarter.

-Wooster tied the contest at 49 with 7:45 left in regulation, but the Tigers went on an 11-1 run in a 3:10 span to seal the contest.

-Outscoring the Fighting Scots, 23-13, the Tigers shot 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) from the field and only allowed two turnovers in the final quarter.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Becoming the 13th women's basketball player all-time to hit the 1,000-point mark, Taylor finished the contest with 24 points on 10-of-18 shooting.

-Hannah McCormack scored 22 points and grabbed seven boards.

-Sue Kim finished with eight assists, seven coming in the fourth quarter.

-Allison Hitchcock grabbed nine boards and scored eight points.

WOOSTER KEY STATISTICS
-Anna Gibbs scored 15 points and had six steals for Wooster.

-Akwia Tilton scored 10 points and corralled five boards for the visitors.

UP NEXT
The Tigers will wrap up the Sewanee Holiday Classic on Saturday with a matchup against Covenant. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Juhan Gymnasium.
