LOS ANGELES — The Occidental women's basketball team couldn't overcome some major shooting woes in a 60-55 loss to Pacific (Ore.) at Rush Gym on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers shot just 22 percent from the field and 3 for 24 from the 3-point line, including 0-17 through three quarters. It looked like they were cursed or their was a lid on the basket. 

Still they were in the game and had a chance to win it.

Tala Ismail looked long and athletic in the first half and hit the second of two fourth-quarter 3-pointers with 50 seconds to play to cut the Boxers lead to 56-54.

But Charli Elliott got an offensive rebound on Liana's Tanaka's mid range shot that barely scratched the rim with 25 seconds and the shot clock turned off.

Oxy fouled to put the Boxers on the line, but they made their free throws to ice the game.

Ismail finished with a team-high 17 points, nine rebounds, six steals, three blocks and an assist. Triana Anderson added 14 points and nine rebounds, including six at the offensive end of the floor. 

The Tigers had an opportunity to separate themselves in the first half, but missed a handful of free throws so their lead was just 32-26. When Oxy was good, its length in zone defenses and transition game was effective. 

Pacific (Ore.) opened the second half on an 18-3 run and won the third quarter 22-5.

Carly Kakuda led the boxers with 13 points, including three 3-pointers and Kaela Collins added 11. 

Next Game: Oxy breaks for the winter holiday and then the Tigers travel to compete in the D3hoops.com Classic against Hamline and Wisc.-Stout on Dec. 29-30.

Oxy returns to SCIAC play against La Verne at Life Pacific in San Dimas on Jan. 1 at 7 p.m.
