KING'S WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DOWNS CENTENARY 71-55

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ --   Junior forward Alexis Steeber equaled her career high with 19 points with 10 rebounds to power the visiting King's College women's basketball team to a 71-55 victory over host Centenary University Monday night in Hackettstown, NJ.

With the win, King's improved to 4-2 on the year while Centenary slipped to 2-6.

King's fell behind early in the first quarter 5-2 but took a 10-7 lead with 4:13 left in the first quarter after back-to-back three-pointers by Lindsey Dippre and Erin Schmidt. After a Centenary miss, King's used a 5-2 spurt to take a 15-9 lead into the second quarter.

The Lady Monarchs then scored the first seven points of the second quarter to push the score to 22-9 after a three-pointer by Kayla Dillinger. After a Centenary bucket, King's used an inside basket from Rebecca Prociak and a three-pointer by Mackenzie Yori to give the Lady Monarchs a 27-11 lead with 5:40 left in the half. But the Cyclones used a 13-7 surge the rest of the way to close to within 34-24 at the half.

In the third quarter, Centenary climbed to within six points when a Dayna Wich jumper cut the gap to 42-36, but Dippre hit another three-pointer and Steeber scored the next eight points for King's as the Lady Monarchs took a 53-41 advantage into the final period.

King's continued to separate as the Lady Monarchs came out and scored the first eight points to build a 61-41 lead at the 8:32 mark after a traditional three-point play from Olivia Hoffman, a three-pointer by Schmidt and two foul shots from Dippre.

Centenary looked to make a comeback and put together a 13-4 run to close to within 65-54 with 2:51 remaining. But King's put the game away with a 6-1 flurry on four points from Steeber and an inside basket by Prociak to set the final score.

Steeber equaled her career best of 19 points set last season against Ramapo College. She was also one rebound shy of tying her career-high of 11 boards established as a freshman.

Prociak added 12 points, three boards, and two assists while Dippre followed with 11 points and four assists. Olivia Hoffman contributed nine points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots while Yori also netted nine points with two assists.

Rachel Edwards led Centenary with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Amber Reisenwitz and Nicole Cartaino followed with 11 and 10 points respectively.

King's will play its final game of the semester Thursday with a home matchup against Gwynedd-Mercy University at 7:00 PM in Scandlon Gymnasium.
