Braden Earns First Win with Sewanee; Tigers Down Scots, 66-59

DANVILLE, Ky. - Sewanee women's basketball outscored their opponents, 21-6, in the fourth quarter en route to a 66-59 win over Maryville on Friday night for Tracey Braden's first win with the program in the first day of the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic, hosted by Centre College.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee made its first six shots, finishing the opening quarter 6-for-9 in the period.
-The Tigers took a 36-33 halftime lead thanks to the team shooting 50 percent (14-for-26) from the field.
-Maryville used a 12-3 run in the first five-plus minutes of the third quarter to take the lead for the first time. The Scots allowed 12 third quarter points, and led the Tigers, 53-47, headed into the fourth quarter.
-The Tigers went on an 8-2 run in a 3:31 run to start the fourth quarter. Bella Taylor drained a three-pointer to tie the contest at 55 with 6:29 left in regulation.
-Sewanee went back-and-forth from Maryville from there. Sue Kim gave the Tigers the lead, 56-55 with 4:36 left, but the Scots' Madison Maples drained a three-pointer four seconds later to retake the lead, 58-56.
-On the next Sewanee possession, Hannah McCormack drained a jump shot to tie the game up at 58 points a piece.
-With 2:37 left, Taylor dropped another jumper to give the Tigers the lead, which would hold for the rest of the game.
-After a 20-9 third quarter by Maryville, the Tigers responded by outscoring the Scots, 21-6, in the fourth period.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Braden earns her first win with the Tigers program. She came to Sewanee with 10 years of NCAA Division III head coaching experience at Westminister (Mo.)
-As a team, the Tigers forced 13 turnovers and scored 14 points off of those turnovers.
-Bella Taylor led the Tigers with 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting. Now at 904 career points, the junior is 96 points away from 1,000 in her career. She also totaled six rebounds, three steals and two assists.
-Hannah McCormack added 14 points and five rebounds for the Tigers.
-Bella Bombassi grabbed five of the team's 12 offensive rebounds.

MARYVILLE KEY STATISTICS
-The Scots were 23-5 a year ago, losing in the USA South Tournament Final to Piedmont. 
-Lauren Biliter scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots.
-Haley Talbott added 15 points for the Scots.

The Tigers will conclude their weekend in Danville with a contest against Anderson (Ind.) on Saturday at the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic. Tip is scheduled at noon.
