NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University senior guard Jenifer Lee will hold a dear memory for the events of Saturday, Feb. 18.

Being honored prior to tip-off between the host Spartans and Transylvania University at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena as part of Senior Day 2017 festivities, Lee received another tribute on the Stan Weller Court honoring Coaches Hoffman and Wolfe. This one came from the individuals wearing the Black and Gold with her.

Lee wound up her collegiate hoops' career with a team-leading 12 points to go with eight rebounds and four assists to help lead the way to a 65-61 win over the visiting Pioneers who take the number three seed into next weekend's conference postseason tournament. The underclasswoman duo of freshman guard Hannah Newby (Danville, Ind.) and sophomore center Maddy Minehart (Auburn, Ind.) also ended in double digits, as Newby scored 11, thanks to three three-point buckets, and Minehart finished with 10.

"It's great to go out on a high note," Coach Josh Dzurick said. "This bunch wanted to pay tribute to a senior who's had a great four-year career. I thought that really motivated us to play hard. Jen, as a leader does, kept them in check … the team wanted to rally for her. Overall, we did a good job of battling back against a good Transylvania team. It's a tribute to Jen and how this team feels about her."

"We just need to be more consistent (looking to the future)," he added. "We showed a lot of signs of really good basketball but were still inconsistent at times. Consistency will show in the effort over the off-season. If they want to get into the tournament again, they need to work towards it. When we pass and talk and are motivated together, we show signs of great things."

MU, winding up the season at 9-16 overall and 8-10 in the league, overcame a 17-9 deficit early on. A three-ball by Newby put the home team up 22-21 after the first 10 minutes and brought a roar from almost 400 happy fans. The second period was back and forth throughout before the Pioneers made a run and had a 33-32 halftime edge which they built out to eight in the third period. As Dzurick noted, the Spartans had an answer, tying the game at 49-49 going into the final frame. Manchester University was tied twice but never trailed over the last quarter in route to the decision.
