GETTYSBURG, Pa.  Junior Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) set the Centennial Conference record for consecutive double-doubles and Gettysburg College put an end to Ursinus College's playoff hopes with a 57-42 decision inside Bream Gym on Saturday.

Gettysburg (18-7, 14-6 CC) will host Johns Hopkins University (13-11, 12-8 CC) in the first round of the conference playoffs this coming Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Ursinus (13-12, 11-9 CC) entered the day needing a victory to clinch the fifth playoff spot, but the Bears were unable to pull closer than eight points in the final period.

Gibbons made her final statement for CC Player of the Year by turning in 24 points and 13 rebounds. It was the junior forward's 13th consecutive double-double, breaking the previous league mark of 12 achieved by Johns Hopkins University's Julie Anderson in 1995-96 and 1996-97. Gibbons now has 21 double-doubles on the year, four shy of Anderson's single-season record.

The Bullets never trailed after opening with the game's first nine points. Junior Kendra Meredith (Boyds, Md./Northwest) had a hand in every tally, dishing out a pair of assists and scoring two buckets.

Gettysburg's lead hit double-figures at 13-2 on a lay-up by freshman Ashley Gehrin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) with 3:51 left in the first quarter. The hosts led 17-6 after the opening period.

Ursinus closed the gap in a hurry with a nine-point spurt to second quarter. A free throw by Lydia Konstanzer put the score at 17-15 with 7:51 left in the half.

Back-to-back Bear turnovers translated into a pair of buckets for the Bullets and a jumper by Gehrin pushed the lead back to eight (23-15). The hosts went into the locker room holding a 30-19 lead.

After falling behind by 12 (36-24) midway through the third period, Ursinus dropped in seven-straight points to pull to 36-31. A missed three-pointer by Rachel Guy led to a rebound for Gibbons which clinched the junior's record-breaking double-double. She came back to the offensive end and knocked down a three-pointer to set Gettysburg ahead 39-31 entering the fourth quarter.

Ursinus was unable to get any closer in the fourth quarter. After a three-point play by Konstanzer trimmed the deficit to 49-40, freshman Kiera Cesareo (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) swished a three-pointer from the right wing. Sophomore Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) came away with a steal on the next Ursinus possession and found Gibbons sprinting ahead of the pack for an easy lay-in to push the advantage to 54-40 with 2:56 left.

Gettysburg finished 24-of-51 (47.1 percent) and held a 46-30 rebounding advantage. Ursinus managed to hit just 14-of-63 (22.2 percent) field goal attempts.

Gibbons finished 10-of-13 from the floor and hit all three of her free throw attempts. She will enter the postseason just 25 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

Meredith posted 10 points and dished out six assists, while Gehrin tallied 11 points and five rebounds.

Konstanzer paced Ursinus with 23 points, 12 rebounds, and six steals.
