(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's basketball team remained in a second-place tie in the Centennial Conference standings, turning back visiting Franklin & Marshall, 69-57, on Wednesday night.

Senior Mary Martin (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) scored her 1,000th career point, scoring the last basket of the game to reach the milestone exactly, with 18 points in the night. She becomes the 12th player in program history score 1,000 points and the fifth player to record 1,000 points and over 650 rebounds.

The teams went head-to-head throughout the first half with Franklin & Marshall holding a 29-28 advantage at halftime. The Red Devils had a strong start as three different players hit a three-pointer to put Dickinson up, 15-8, with 1:38 remaining in the first quarter.

Senior Lindsey Zwecker (Atlanta, Ga./Pace Academy) traded field-goals with Kristin Hamill to give the Devils a 17-10 lead at the first break.

Martin hit a jumper to open the second quarter before the Diplomats made a 10-0 run to pull in front, 20-19, with 7:10 to play in the half. F&M led by four, late in the half before sophomore Mackenzie Skerritt (Hightstown, N.J./The Peddie School) converted a three-point play to cut the deficit to 29-28, at halftime.

The Red Devils used back-to-back three-pointers from senior Helen Roberts (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and first-year Hannah Heiring (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) to take a 36-33 lead, in the opening three minutes of the third.

Dickinson put together a 10-0 run and took a 47-39 lead into the fourth period. Heiring hit an early triple to give the Devils an 11-point advantage and they would lead by double-figures for almost the entire rest of the game.

The Diplomats would battle the entire way, but solid free throw shooting down the stretch held the lead. The Devils countered a late lay-up with a quick outlet to Martin for her milestone, 1,000th career point.

Martin added five rebounds and two assists to her 18 points. Heiring led the way with a game-high 21 points, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc and 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Roberts finished with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists, hitting 5-of-6 free throws.

Skerritt flirted with a double-double, scoring nine points and controlling eight rebounds while senior Jennifer Smith (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) tallied four points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Hamill led the Diplomats with 13 points as they fall to 10-14 overall and 8-11 in the Centennial Conference.

The Red Devils improve to 17-7 overall and 14-5 in conference play. They are home on Saturday for the regular season finale, celebrating senior day before hosting Washington College at 2:00 pm.
