New Paltz Women’s Basketball Downs Brockport, 76-52, in SUNYAC Action

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The freshman trio of Marion Dietz (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay-East Fishkill), Sandi Harris (Georgetown, Texas/Georgetown) and Paige Niemeyer (North Chatham, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) combined for 39 points to help lead the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team to a 76-52 victory over State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) foe The College at Brockport on Friday evening in the Hawk Center.

Dietz paced the Hawks with 15 points while Harris recorded 12 points, including four 3-pointers. Niemeyer collected her first double-double with 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds while dishing out three assists.

New Paltz drew even with the Golden Eagles at the free throw line, with both teams shooting 66.7 percent, but the Hawks held a 47-34 advantage in rebounds, scored 22 bench points and collected 18 points off turnovers while shooting 41.7 percent (26-of-60) from the field and 50.0 percent (8-of-16) from beyond the arc.

For Brockport, senior forward Hannah Rehbaum led the way with a team-high 18 points while senior guard Faith Welch chipped in nine points and junior forward Lindsay Johnson recorded a team-high seven rebounds.

Despite a close 16-11 score at the conclusion of the first period, New Paltz came alive in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Golden Eagles, 46-23 for a comfortalbe 62-34 cushion. Brockport fought a hard battle in the final period to trim the deficit but could not counter the Hawks' full court press as the clock ran down, ultimately sealing the final 76-52 victory for New Paltz.

The Hawks (14-7, 11-4 SUNYAC) are back in the Hawk Center tomorrow when they host No. 18-ranked SUNY Geneseo.
