UW-La Crosse Rally Falls Short in Loss to UW-Oshkosh

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball team fell 71-64 to 14th-ranked UW-Oshkosh Wednesday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles drop to 12-10 overall and 6-5 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans improve to 20-2 overall and 10-1 in the conference.  UW-Oshkosh recorded its sixth straight win over UWL with Wednesday's victory. 

UW-Oshkosh, ranked 14th on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, led 13-7 with 3:11 remaining in the first quarter after a Morgan Kokta jumper. UWL tied the game at 14-14 with 1:18 left on Rachel Atchison's three-pointer.  The Titans led 17-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles took their first lead of the game at 21-20 with 8:00 remaining in the second quarter after Delaney Schoenenberger's three-point play, but the Titans scored eight straight points to lead 28-21 with 5:39 left.  UWL cut the margin to 28-27 with 2:22 remaining on Atchison's layup, but UW-Oshkosh ended the half on a 9-2 run to lead 37-29.

The Titans took their largest lead of the game at 45-35 with 4:25 left in the third quarter. UW-Oshkosh later led 47-37 when UWL used a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 47-46 with 1:01 remaining. Alex Richard's three-point play with :42 left gave UW-Oshkosh a 50-46 lead after three quarters.  UWL tied the game at 55-55 with 6:24 remaining on an Elise DeNoyer three-point field goal.  DeNoyer's layup with 2:35 left cut the Titans' lead to 63-62 with 2:35 left before Kokta's layup with 1:52 remaining gave UW-Oshkosh a three-point lead.  MaKenzie Miller converted a pair of free throws with 1:07 left to cut the deficit to 65-64, but UW-Oshkosh went six-of-six at the free throw line in the final :17. 

UWL trailed 67-64 after a pair of Taylor Schmidt free throws, but the Eagles turned the ball over on their next possession and were called for an intentional foul.  Kokta made four free throws in the final :10.

UWL shot 44.0% from the field, including 40.0% (six-of-15) from three-point range, and 82.4% (14-of-17) at the free throw line. DeNoyer led four players in double figures with 20 points while also finishing with eight rebounds. Miller recorded her ninth straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.  Atchison totaled 11 points and five rebounds while Schoenenberger finished with 10 points. 

UW-Oshkosh shot 41.7% from the field, including 37.5% (six-of-16) from three-point range, and 68.2% (15-of-22) at the line.  Schmidt and Kokta led four Titans in double figures with 14 points. Richard and Jaimee Pitt each had 11 points.
