GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior forward Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) posted her 17th double-double of the season, but the Gettysburg College women's basketball team dropped a 58-51 Centennial Conference (CC) decision to Dickinson College Tuesday evening in Bream Gym.

The Bullets (15-6, 11-5 CC) entered the night in third place in the conference standings, but now find themselves in fourth with four games left in the season.

Gibbons finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, adding to her single-season school record for double-doubles that she broke in her last game this past Saturday.

Sophomore guard Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) also scored 17 points for Gettysburg, which suffered its first home loss of the year after starting 9-0 in Bream Gym.

Helen Roberts scored a game-high 19 points for Dickinson (15-7, 12-5 CC), which completed a season sweep of the Bullets and moved into a tie for second place in the Centennial standings. Kassidy Lesher added 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Red Devils.

It was a tie game heading into the fourth quarter, but the visitors would outscore the Bullets 16-9 in the final period.

After trailing by as much as six, Gibbons made it a 54-51 game with 1:26 left, coming up with a steal in the backcourt and driving in for a lay-up. She then drew an offensive foul at the other end of the court, but the Bullets were unable to find the basket down the stretch, missing their last six shots. In the meantime, the Red Devils sealed the win by going 4-for-4 at the foul line.

Gettysburg's defense was stifling in the early going, as the Bullets shut out Dickinson for the opening five and a half minutes and opened the game on a 10-4 run. Dorshimer scored 10 of her points in the first quarter and the Bullets led 14-10 after 10 minutes of play.

Dickinson came back to tie the game early in the second quarter, only to see the Bullets answer with a 5-0 spurt to go up 23-18 with 4:21 remaining before the half. Dorshimer sunk her third and final 3-pointer with 1:30 left to make it 26-22 before Mary Martin canned a jumper 25 seconds later, drawing the Devils to within two at the intermission.

It was a nip-and-tuck affair in third quarter, which featured six ties and three lead changes. Gettysburg held the largest lead of the period for either team at four (30-26) with 7:30 to go, but Dickinson chipped away and took its first lead of the night when Helen Roberts nailed a 3-pointer to make it 37-36 with 4:24 showing.

The Red Devils led 42-40 with 54 seconds left in the quarter before Gibbons beat the buzzer on a dish from Dorshimer, making it 42-all going into the final period.

Dorshimer hit a pair of free throws with 8:40 remaining to put the Bullets up 46-44, but that would turn out to be the team's final lead of the night, as Lauren McBride scored six straight points to put Dickinson in front for good.

Gettysburg continues its three-game week on Thursday, when it visits Muhlenberg College at 6:30 p.m. in another big Centennial Conference match-up. The Mules are currently a half game in front of the Bullets in the conference standings, tied with Dickinson for second place.
