Strong Fourth Quarter Gives Knights Ninth Straight Win

ASTON, Pa. – Neumann University women's basketball team out lasted Immaculata University for its ninth straight win, 68-55, on Wednesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

 

Nafisa Saunders led the Knights with 20 points and AAliya Hayes followed behind with 19 points.

 

The Knights started the game off strong, building an early nine point lead, 11-2. Hayes hit a foul shot for a 12-4 before the Mighty Macs started to chip into the lead. Over a five minute span between the end of the first quarter and the beginning of the second, Immaculata went on a 10-0 run to take a 14-12 lead. The teams traded baskets, Immaculata went on 6-0 to take a 22-16 lead with 4:04 left before halftime. The Knights ended the half with an 8-2 run to take a 24-all score into the break.

 

The Knights and the Mighty Macs started the third quarter in back and forth action and still remained tied, 34-34, with 4:39 left on the clock. Over the next three minutes, the Knights built a six point lead, 43-37, and took a 43-39 advantage into the final 10 minutes.

 

The teams stayed close and it was a one possession game, 52-49 Knights, midway through the final quarter. A layup by Alex Fernandez and Hayes put Neumann up by seven, 56-49. The Knights were able to keep the Mighty Macs at arms length and then sealed the win by finishing the game on a 7-0 run for the 68-55 final   

 

Neumann (14-6, 9-2 CSAC) will head to Centenary College for another conference game on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is slated at 2:00 PM.
