Women’s Basketball Falls at Wells College

AURORA, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball team fell on Wednesday to North Eastern Athletic Conference foe Wells College by the score of 56-53.

Keuka College (9-8, 6-6 NEAC) return home this weekend as they host Morrisville State College on Saturday and Cazenovia College on Sunday.

A trio of Wolves scored in double-figures on Wednesday. Keuka was led by sophomore Lauren Anten (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) with 14 points. Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, N.Y. / Tupper Lake) and Abby Hess (Cortland, N.Y. / Cortland) each added 12 points in the loss. Keuka was led in rebounding by Sarah Tyler (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) with nine. Katie Stuart also added eight rebounds for the Wolves.

The Wolves got out to a fast start on Wednesday at Wells College. They took an early lead over Wells, but the Express responded, leading 15-8 with two minutes left in the first. Keuka College scored eight unanswered points to rally back and lead the game 16-15 after the first quarter.

Wells College took the lead over the Wolves early in the second quarter. Keuka responded to tie the game at 23-23. A pair of baskets by Anten gave the Wolves a four-point lead, 27-23. The margin would remain four as Keuka College led 29-25 at halftime.

The Express scored six straight to start the second half, taking the lead. A three by Katie Stuart momentarily gave the Wolves the lead, but Wells took it right back. Wells scored seven unanswered. Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) and Abby Hess made baskets at the end of the third, but Keuka College would go into the final quarter trailing 43-41.

Keuka was able to tie the game at 43-43, but Wells responded to take the lead. The Wolves would keep the game close, but the Express went 7-7 from the free throw line in the quarter to preserve the 56-53 victory over Keuka College.
