Wolves Top Penn St.-Berks 68-44

KEUKA PARK, N.Y.. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball team defeated Penn St.-Berks on Sunday by the score of 68-44 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College (8-7, 5-5 NEAC) will take to the road on Wednesday as they travel to Wells College for a North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division matchup.

Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) and Katie Stuart (Tupper Lake, N.Y. / Tupper Lake) led Keuka College in scoring with 13 each on the afternoon. Sophomore Abby Hess (Cortland, N.Y. / Cortland) led Keuka in rebounding with nine and added eight points.

Overall on the afternoon, Keuka College held Penn St.-Berks to just 13 field goals, shooting 20.6% from the floor. The Wolves totaled 11 blocks as a team, led by three by Katie Stuart. Overall, eight different Wolves recorded a block in the win.

Keuka College got out to an early lead over the Nittany Lions on Sunday. They played well defensively as Berks shot just 2-13 from the floor, but free throws allowed the Nittany Lions to stay in the game. Penn St.-Berks got seven of their 11 points from the line in the quarter. At the end of the first, Keuka College held a 14-11 lead.

The Wolves continued to play well defensively. They held Penn St.-Berks scoreless over the first five minutes of action in the second. During that span, Keuka went on a 6-0 run to build their lead. The Wolves pushed their lead to double-digits following a steal by Lauren Anten (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) and a layup by Laranjo. Penn St.-Berks shot just 10.5% from the floor in the frame as Keuka carried a 28-17 lead into halftime.

Keuka continued to press in the second half. Katie Stuart made the first shot of the half and that was followed by another Keuka layup, making it 32-17. The third was the best shooting quarter of the day for Berks, but Keuka College was able to maintain their advantage. In the final seconds of the quarter, Keuka pushed the lead to 21 points as Brooke Overton (Boston, Mass. / Brookline) stole the ball and laid it in, giving Keuka College a 52-31 lead going into the final quarter.

Keuka College played out the fourth quarter with their lead. After the Nittany Lions made the opening basket, Keuka went on a 7-0 run. Freshman Alexa Brown (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls) sank a jumper and made a layup during that run. Keuka College would continue onto the 68-44 conference victory over Penn St.-Berks.
