Inferno's Win Streak Snapped By League Leaders

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College saw its four-game win streak come to an end as the host team fell to Wisconsin Lutheran College, 63-46, Thursday night inside Reiman Gymnasium.

The Inferno led, 7-6, midway through the first quarter but the Warriors scored the next 11 points to take a 10 point lead of their own and remained in front the rest of the contest to stay atop of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings.

Alverno (8-10, 8-5 NACC) shot an impressive 45 percent from the field in the first two quarters, but WLC (12-5, 12-1) managed a superior 52 percent mark in the half for the 38-26 lead at intermission.

Both teams struggled shooting in the second half as the Inferno hit just 23 percent of its shots and the Warriors just 32 percent of theirs.

Mackenzie Mathies led Alverno with 15 points as she was a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc while Gabby Hood added 12 and Katelyn Bartlett chipped in eight. Bartlett also snagged a game-best nine rebounds.

Maddy Elrod and Kelly Tramburg scored 13 points apiece for the Warriors and Jen Dowden had 11.

Alverno plays its third game in five days Saturday in a road contest at Marian University. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. in Fond du Lac.
