Hawks Earn 78-53 Victory Against Alfred

            ONEONTA, NY - Caitlin Corbett (Altamont, NY/Guilderland), Jacqui Foreman (Tolland, CT/Tolland), and Sarah Shaw (Franklin, MA/Franklin) each scored 13 points and every Hawk that saw action registered at least one basket as 'Wick defeated visiting Alfred University 78-53 on Friday night at Lambros Arena. The Hawks (8-5) are winners of five straight and their conference record remains unblemished.
            After three lead changes in the first four and a half minutes, a Corbett layup gave the Hawks the lead for good with 5:36 to go in the first quarter. Hartwick would outscore the Saxons 9-0 to close the period up eight, 14-6.
            The advantage grew to as many as 11 points on three occasions in the second quarter. Foreman closed out the half with a jumper that put the hosts ahead 31-20.
            The Hawks opened up a big lead in the second half, scoring 23 points to the Saxons' 12. Liz Harvey (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox-Westerloo) converted a traditional three-point play with 39 seconds showing on the clock in the quarter to hand 'Wick its biggest lead of the night up to that point, 54-30. A three-pointer from Carly Johnson (Greenville, NY/Greenville Central) 4:07 into the fourth made it 66-41 and the Hawks would cruise by 18 points or more the rest of the way.
            Hartwick shot just under 50%, making 31 or its 63 shots (49.2%). It also connected on 11-of-30 three-pointers. 'Wick held the edge on the glass, 45-36, and kept the Saxons to only 32.4% (22-for-68) from the floor.
            Corbett would make six of her 11 shots to go along with five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Foreman went 6-of-8 from the field and she tied for a team-high with seven rebounds. Shaw drained 4-of-7 shots from three-point range. She added seven boards, two blocks, and two steals.
            Johnson finished with nine points, including a trio of threes. Anna Hickey (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth) had eight points and two three-pointers. Emily Stone (Granby, CT/Granby) chipped in seven points and a game-high seven assists.
            Harvey closed her night with six points, Courtney Cirillo (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) added four points and six rebounds, and LeeAnne Green (Windsor, CT/Watkinson School) contributed three points and five boards.
            Jamie Wilcox led all scorers with 18 points for Alfred. She also hit four treys. Amanda Off added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Saxons, who fall to 2-12, and 0-5 in the Empire 8.
            Hartwick looks to make it six in a row tomorrow when it hosts Houghton at 3 p.m. at Lambros Arena.
