Panthers Fend Off Hendrix in 54-53 Win

CONWAY, Ark. – The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team picked up its third Southern Athletic Association win Sunday afternoon as they held off Hendrix University 54-53 on the road.  BSC improved to 8-6 overall, 3-0 in the SAA with the win.

 

Jameice Holmes (Nashville, Tenn./University School of Nashville) led the Panthers with 17 points spending 37 minutes on the floor. Camillia Carter (Hueytown, Ala./Hueytown HS) earned 14 points of her own.

 

The Panthers led by as many as 19 in the third quarter when Hendrix began its comeback. The Warriors went on a 22-9 run in the fourth quarter to pull within one with eight seconds left.  BSC was able to prevent a shot in the final two seconds to earn the win.

 

After this weekend's games, Laura Van Peursem (Huntsville, Ala./Randolph HS) became the programs all-time career-blocks leader. She now has 117 career blocks, eclipsing the previous record of 109 set by Brooke Gentsch back in 2004.

 

The Panthers return home on Friday, Jan. 13 to take on Oglethorpe University in a doubleheader with the men. They tipoff at 6 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
