Gophers End 2016 with Win Against Kalamazoo

DELAWARE, OH – The Goucher College women's basketball team (4-7, Landmark 0-1) bounced back to take down Kalamazoo College, 68-61, in the Hoops for Hope Tournament consolation game Friday afternoon.

 

Senior Jaida Scarborough tied a career-high with 19 points in the game; a mark she has not hit since facing Moravian December 2, 2015.

 

Junior Briana Bull led the Gophers on offense with 24 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and six steals (all team-highs) while freshman Katie Pacak chipped in with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

 

Bull was named to the All-Tournament team after her two performances where she scored an accumulated 46 points (23.0 PPG), 24 rebounds (12.0 RPG), 10 assists (5.0 APG) and 9 steals (4.5 SPG).

 

Junior Emily Kozal, with a game-high 27 points, paced the Hornets while senior Sidney Wall and junior Danielle Simon cleaned the board with 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Simon led Kalamazoo with six assists.

 
 

How It Happened:

  • The Hornets jumped out to a 16-13 lead in the first quarter, despite being outshot by the Gophers 35.3% (6-of-17) to 33.3% (7-of-21).
  • Goucher bounced back in the second period, outscoring Kalamazoo 14-12 behind six points from Bull.
  • The Hornets maintained a 28-27 lead at the intermission.
  • The Gophers dominated on the boards (15-10) in the third quarter, which turned into a 19-10 differential, giving Goucher the lead, 46-38 heading into the final stanza.
  • Scarborough and Bull combined for 16 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Gophers to their fourth win of the season.
  • Goucher shot 41.8% (28-of-67) over the course of the game and held Kalamazoo to only 31.6% (24-of-76) shooting.
  • The Gophers outpaced the Hornets in rebounds (50-42), points in the paint (36-28) and fast break points (12-4).

The Gophers remain idle through the New Year's weekend, but return to the court on Monday at home when they take on Penn State-Harrisburg in the Decker SRC at 6PM. In their last matchup (2012-13), the Gophers fell to the Lions 59-47.
