LATROBE, Pa (Dec. 21) – Baldwin Wallace remained unbeaten as they defeated the Saint Vincent women's basketball team 68-48 in non-conference action at the Carey Center.

With a strong defensive effort, the visiting Yellow Jackets moved to 9-0 overall for 2016-17 season. Saint Vincent saw its two-game winning streak snapped, dropping to 5-5 overall for the season.

Cold shooting plagued Saint Vincent offense in the first quarter, as they totaled just eight points on three made shots from the field in the first 10 minutes. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets went on two runs to jump ahead early in the contest. After a nice feed down low, Babette Sanmartin finished strong to open the game's scoring but was quickly responded by an eight straight points by the visitors, giving B-W an 8-2 with 5:15 remaining in the first. Later in the quarter, Baldwin Wallace extended its lead, knocking down three consecutive from behind the arc to give take a 17-8 lead after 10 minutes.

The offensive struggles continued for the Bearcats in the second quarter, as their first field goal came from a runner knocked down by freshman guard Taylor Boringoff the bench at 4:48 to end a six-plus minute drought. At that point SVC was trailing by a 22-11 score.

Unfortunately for the Bearcats their lack of offense wasn't the only thing that carried over as the Yellow Jackets stayed hot from behind the three-point line. BW hit four more outside shots in the second quarter, helping them gain a 34-16 lead at halftime. The 16 first half points was a season-low for the Bearcats.

Saint Vincent could never make a run at things in the second half, despite out-scoring B-W by a 20-15 margin in the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets closed out the 68-48 victory to give them their best start to a season since 2005-06.

SVC shot just 27.1 percent from the field and committed 22 turnovers, 13 of which were in the first half. No starter managed to reach double figures in scoring in the loss. The Bearcat bench managed to pour in 29 points. One of the bright spots for SVC was the performance by Boring, who posted a career-high 11 points. Boring was especially effective from deep, converting 3-of-6 three-point attempts. The Central Cambria product also collected a game-high three steals defensively.

Jasmine Weems chipped in eight points, while Sanmartin and Abbey Conrad each netted five in the setback. Sanmartin pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds, which is the third highest single-game total in the PAC this season and the most in a single game by a Bearcat since Brittany Sedlock had 20 boards against Waynesburg on January 4, 2012.

Maria Morgan and Conrad each recorded three assists to lead SVC.

Hannah Fecht came up just short of a double-double, leading B-W with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Tiffany Bentler chipped in 12 and Clara Lemmon added 10.

Saint Vincent returns to action with the first of three games in five days, hosting Geneva College in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Tuesday, January 3. Start time is slated for 5:30 p.m. at the Carey Center.
