Bull Scores Career-High in 64-51 Win at Alvernia

READING, PA – Junior Briana Bull and the Goucher women's basketball team (3-6, 0-1 Landmark) dominated in a 64-51 win over Alvernia University on the road in Reading, PA Saturday evening. Bull dropped a career-high 33 points and collected 17 rebounds in the Gophers' second win in a row.

 

In addition to Bull's 33 points, Senior Jaida Scarborough and sophomore Nailah Jones scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman Katie Pacak gathered 11 rebounds to accompany eight points in the contest, while fellow freshman Shalom Omo-Osagie chipped in with seven rebounds and two assists.

 

 The Crusaders were led by freshman Abbie Zerbe with 14 points. Sophomore Miranda Hoover paced Alvernia on the boards with 15 rebounds.

 

How It Happened:

  • The Crusaders jumped out to an early 12-5 lead in the first quarter, continuing to lead to the end of the stanza at 17-13. 
  • Alvernia started hot again in the second quarter, earning a 24-17 advantage and maintained the seven-point lead into the intermission, 30-23.
  • The Gophers drubbed the Crusaders to open the second half, going on a 15-4 run over seven minutes to earn their first lead since the first minute of the game. The third quarter closed with Goucher on top 41-38.
  • The fourth quarter brought more of the same with the Gophers outscoring Alvernia 23-13 to earn their third win of the season, 64-51.
  • Bull shot 60.0% (15-of-25) from the field on the evening.
  • Goucher outshot Alvernia as a team, making 36.6% (26-of-71) from the field compared to 29.0% (18-of-62) for the Crusaders.
  • The Gophers dominated in rebounds (53-36) and steals (13-5).

Up Next:

The women's basketball team goes on a short hiatus until they travel to Ohio Wesleyan to take on the Battling Bishops (3-6, 1-2 NCAC) at 6PM in the first round of the Bishop Classic Hoops for Hope on December 29th. The two teams have not played each other since the 1992-1993 season when the Gophers fell 75-35.
