GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- A potential game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer did not fall as Gwynedd Mercy fell 70-67 to visiting Stockton Monday evening in non-conference action.

The Griffins (3-5), who held a 60-54 lead with 4:14 to go, saw the Ospreys use a 9-0 run capped with a three-pointer from Taylor Christina to take the lead for good. Charlotte Kucowski would hit a late three to pull within one (68-67) and after a foul and two Stockton free throws, GMercyU had 1.9 seconds left to fire off a three, but Larissa Leyes' look as the horn sounded bounced off the rim.

Kucowski would finish with a game-high 21 points and snare a team-high eight rebounds. Bianca Adams added 10 while Leyes finished with seven.

In the first quarter, Kucowski was white hot, going 5-for-6 including a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown for 13 points to help GM to a 19-17 lead after the first 10 minutes. Leyes would hit from downtown midway in the second to give Gwynedd a six-point edge (26-20), putting the icing on a 7-0 run. Kucowski would strike again from deep for a 31-24 lead with 1:59 before the half.  The Ospreys cut it to four, but a heads up play from Chyanne Fine before the halftime buzzer helped give the Griffins a six-point lead. On their last possession of the half, Fine took a pass just outside the elbow and would drive into the lane and get her layup to go as the horn sounded.

Things were looking good in the third as Julianna Hoisington gave the Griffins their largest lead of the game (39-29) with her baseline jumper with 6:24 remaining. Christina would connect on a three and later two free throws from Mikila Stefanski would give Stockton a 44-43 advantage with under a minute in the stanza. Bianca Adams would reclaim the lead as her steal and ensuing triple with six ticks left, made it a 46-44 Gwynedd lead entering the final quarter.

The fourth started in a similar fashion with a fantastic steal by Kucowski resulting in a big three from Lyndsay Micucci. Fine's putback off a Micucci miss gave Gwynedd 60-54 lead with 4:14 to go. Najha Treadwell would score the next six points, all buckets in the paint, followed by a three from Stefanski and later another three from Christina and Stockton had itself a 66-62 lead with 1:22 showing on the scoreboard.

After a bucket from Dombrowski to pull within two at the 1:00 minute mark, Kucowski came up with another steal to give possession back, but a drive to the hole from Adams came off the rim and out of bounds, giving the ball back to Stockton. A foul put Lea Mendolla at the free-throw line where she hit both with seven seconds to play. Kucowski would hit her fifth three-pointer on the night, tying a career high, to make it a one-point contest. Another two free throws from Mendolla put the Ospreys back up three with 1.9 seconds remaining.

With the inbound advanced past midcourt after a GM timeout, a long feed across the width of the court came to Leyes' hands, where she got a good look, but her attempt did not go.

Adams also added six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Leyes and Jayla Greene each dished out three assists. Greene would pull down a career-high seven rebounds. The Griffins shot 38% (27-of-71) from the floor and outrebounded Stockton, 40-38.

Christina led the Ospreys with 17 points while Treadwell added 16 and a team-high 12 caroms. Mendolla kicked in 15 while Stefanski and Sasha Williams each had 10. Williams also chipped in eight rebounds, five blocks, and three steals.

The Griffins will return to action at home next Monday against Alvernia at 7 p.m. in their final home game of the calendar year.
