Geneseo takes down Potsdam

Play was even in the first quarter with Geneseo holding the slight 15-8 advantage. Houppert hit two 3-pointers during the 10 minutes, while four different Bears scored.

The Blue Knights' offense lit up in the second quarter with a total of 21 points. Sophomore forward McKenna Brooks (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) started the strong scoring by going 5-for-6 from the free throw line followed by 10 straight points. Dufrane drained a three at 3:12, but Geneseo added another six points to close out the second with the 36-15 lead. Dufrane had five of the Bears seven points. 

The teams went basket-for-basket over the next 10 minutes of play with the Blue Knights chipping in 17 points and the Bears adding 13 to their totals. Smith was the hot hand during the quarter with seven points, while Dufrane, junior forward Emily Drake (Athens, N.Y./Coxsackie-Athens) and junior forward Keme Fofana (Bronx, N.Y./NYC Charter for A.E.C.I.) each had two points.  

Both offenses were slowed in the final quarter with each team scoring nine and the Blue Knights walked away with the 62-37 victory.

Fofana and senior captain Meghan Driscoll (Troy, N.Y./Troy) finished with four points each, while Fofana had five rebounds and Driscoll had four and added three steals. Sophomore forward Victoria Shopovick (White Plains, N.Y./Maria Regina) lead the Bears with seven boards.

Senior guard Bridgit Ryan (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) and fellow senior guard Kayleigh Cavanaugh (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) each scored eight and grabbed seven rebounds.

Potsdam will be back after the New Year when the Bears host Buffalo State Friday at 7:30 p.m. and SUNY Fredonia Saturday at 4 p.m.
