More news about: Alverno

MILWAUKEE -- Host Milwaukee School of Engineering topped Alverno College 61-56 in overtime Saturday night inside the Kern Center in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.

Gabby Hood layup off a give-and-go by Donna Zehner pulled the Inferno within one, 57-56, but Hood missed out on the three-point play after a potential game-tying free throw with 58 seconds left in overtime.

After a defensive stop by Alverno, a go-ahead 3-pointer came up short and the Raiders (2-2, 1-2 NACC) made 4-of-4 free throws over the final nine seconds to hand the Inferno (1-5, 1-1) its first conference loss of the season.

Hood led the team with a career-high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting and added four assists while Zehner also scored a career high with 17 points and snagged eight rebounds.

Karli Selear had her career best on the defensive end with six steals.

The Inferno led by six at halftime and held a one-point lead at the end of the third quarter but was outscored by one in the fourth and by five in the extra period.

Holly Denfeld led the Raiders with 23 points and nine rebounds but was also forced into committing six turnovers.

Alverno returns to action Wednesday night as it hosts Dominican University at 7 p.m. at Reiman Gymnasium.
