Milton, Mass. - The Trinity College women's basketball team jumped out to a 19-8 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back as the Bantams cruised to a 71-46 victory over Pine Manor College on day two of the Curry College Tip-Off Tournament in Milton. The win is Trinity's first of the year after dropping its season opener yesterday, moving them to 1-1 overall while Pine Manor falls to 0-3.

The Bantams were led once again by Becky Reifler (Garden City, N.Y.) who had a team-high 14 points on 7-12 shooting from the field and eight rebounds while earning All-Tournament honors. The Bantams saw seven players score six or more points including first-year guard Peace Kabari (Manchester, N.H.) who had nine points, followed by Courtney Erickson (Everett, Mass.), Erica Junquet (Monroe, N.J.) and Emily Peters (North Attleboro, Mass.) who each had eight. Peters also led all players with nine boards for Trinity. The Bantams shot 42.9% from the field and held the Gators to just over a 31% shooting clip while forcing 20 turnovers and dominating on the glass, pulling down 52 rebounds to Pine Manor's 22.

Kabari and Erickson combined for 11 of Trinity's 19 first quarter points as the Bantams jumped out to a quick 11-3 lead to start the game. A jumper by Gator sophomore Taylor Martin (Merritt Island, Fla.) cut the deficit to six before a pair of free throws by Trinity first-year Jessica Hom (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) and a layup by Peters reclaimed a double-digit lead. Erickson converted a layup and nailed a jumpshot in the final minutes of the quarter to open up the 11-point lead after one.

Pine Manor tried to keep pace in the second quarter but Trinity's 11-2 rebounding margin thwarted any chance the Gators had at getting back in the game. Reifler, Hom and junior Emily Llerena (New Milford, Conn.) scored four points each in the quarter as Trinity entered the half with a 39-23 lead.

Shaquanda Middleton (Savannah, Ga.) scored the first six Pine Manor points out of the half, but a three-pointer from senior co-captain Kaitlin Lewis (Demarest, N.J.) and buckets by Hom and Erickson matched the Gators stride for stride. Junquet sank two free-throws with 3:23 to play in the quarter to open up a 22-point advantage for the Bantams before hitting three more at the end of the quarter to send Trinity into the fourth frame with a commanding 57-33 lead.

Back-to-back buckets by sophomore Meghan Collins (Topsfield, Mass.) and Peters with less than three minutes to go gave the Bantams a 31-point lead, its largest of the game as they coasted to the 25-point victory.  Reifler represented Trinity on the all-tournament team.

Trinity returns to action next Sunday when they travel down the road to St. Joseph for a 1 p.m. tip against the Blue Jays.
