Coleman Double-Double Paces Pipers

More news about: Hamline

It turns out that MC can do more than just play VB.

She can play BB, too.

MC is Hamline freshman Morgen Coleman, who showed her expertise on the Hutton Arena floor this fall as one of the premier setters in the MIAC in volleyball. On Monday night, she showed she can shoot and rebound a basketball with equal success.

Coleman scored a career high 20 points and added 11 rebounds in just 19 minutes of court time as Hamline exploded early en route to an 87-47 victory over Crown College. The margin of victory was the largest by a HU women's hoops team in a dozen years.

The North Branch, Minn. native had plenty of company on the score sheet. Kaeli Stayer fired in 16 points with Reilly Geistfeld kicking in 14 and Chloe Graves continued her march towards the 1,000 career point mark with 10 to help Hamline improve to 3-1 overall.

The Pipers held a 54-42 edge in rebounds. In addition to Coleman, Alaina Quaranta had nine. Graves recorded seven and Geistfeld, who leads the team in rebounds, delivered six.

HU reversed the trend of their previous Hutton appearance by jumping to a 24-15 first quarter lead. The margin expanded to 40-24 at halftime and 62-37 after three quarters. Head coach Kerri Stockwell substituted liberally in the second half, getting 12 players into the game. Just about all of them had hot hands as HU shot 42.7 per cent from the field for the night. The 40-point margin is the largest since the school record of 69 was set in a 118-47 win over North Central in 2004.

Andrea Besa and Hannah Malone led Crown (0-3) with six points each.

Hamline now heads into MIAC play. First up: a date at Augsburg (5-0) on Wednesday, November 30. Tip off is 7:00 p.m. Hamline returns to Hutton Arena on Saturday, December 3 to take on Bethel. That game will commence at 1:00 p.m.
