BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth overcame a 14-point third-quarter deficit Saturday to rally past Buffalo State for a 64-62 women's basketball victory in the championship game of the Betty Abgott Invitational at the Bengals' Sports Arena.

It was Nazareth's second win of the weekend as the Golden Flyers open their 2016-17 season at 2-0. Buffalo State dropped to 2-1. Nazareth also defeated Thiel 67-53 in Friday's opener.

The game was tied 31-31 at halftime, but the hosts bolted out of the gate in the third quarter and outscored Nazareth 20-6 over the first seven minutes to go up 51-37. Nazareth was able to regroup behind a pair of three-point baskets by Sorge and a basket  by freshman Rose Pedretti to close within 51-45 by the end of the third.

After Buffalo State scored, Peebles was fouled with :14 left and sank both free throws to preserve the win and complete a 19-9 fourth-quarter rally.

Nazareth led for a good portion of the first quarter, but the Bengals came back to tie the score at 20-20 after the first 10-minute period. A basket by Peebles and a three-pointer by Benedict gave Nazareth a 27-22 led with six minutes to play in the second.
