MARYVILLE, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern women's basketball team saw its historic season come to an end Saturday evening, losing to No. 12 Maryville, 63-56, in the second round of the NCAA Championship.

The Panthers fell to 25-4, while the Scots moved to 26-3 and will face No. 1 Thomas More in the Sweet 16 next weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Maryville led 19-10 with 1:06 left in the first quarter, and BSC put together a 14-2 run to span to the 4:07 mark of the second and put the Panthers up 24-21.
• BSC led 32-29 at the half, and led by as much as 10, 39-29, mid-way through the third.
• The Scots chipped away at the lead, cutting it to 43-39 at the end of the third, and then pulling ahead 48-47 at the 5:17 mark of the fourth.
• Maryville would never trail again after that, going up by six, although the Panthers cut it back to 58-56 on a three-pointer from senior Halle Knowles with 26 seconds remaining.
• BSC would not score again after that, sending Maryville to the free throw line six times, where the Scots hit five.

NOTABLE

• Senior Yorisha Bryant led all players with 26 points on 9-17 shooting, and recorded her 14th double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds as well.
• Knowles and senior Ashley Curry led BSC with four assists apiece.
• The Panthers had the best season in program history, going 25-4 and making their first NCAA post-season appearance.
• BSC also won the program's first conference title, winning the Southern Athletic Association tournament last weekend, as well as a share of the regular season crown.
