Keene, N.H.-Rhode Island College junior guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) scored a team-best 13 points, while chipping in six rebounds and dishing out five assists, as the No. 7-seeded Anchorwomen fell to the second-seeded Owls of Keene State, 70-58, in 2016 Little East Conference Tournament quarterfinal action played at Spaulding Gym on Tuesday night.

The Anchorwomen (7-16) see their season come to a close, while the Owls (21-4) advance to the tourney semifinals.

Keene State wasted no time jumping ahead, outscoring the Anchorwomen, 11-4, over the opening 3:30, which was capped by a pair of made free throws by junior guard Stephanie D'Annolfo (Tyngsborough, MA). The Owls continued to press their advantage, opening their lead to as large as 14, 20-6, with 1:35 remaining in the opening stanza, but a late layup from junior forward Jenna Ayala (Pawtucket, RI) sent the Anchorwomen into the second period down 12, 20-8.

RIC started the second half quickly, with a made jumper from senior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) capping an 8-3 run in the opening 1:53 to cut the deficit down to just seven, 23-16. The Owls responded, however, regaining their composure and extending their lead, with a pair of made free throws by sophomore guard Sandi Purcell (Hudson, NH) sending Keene into the halftime break with a 13-point, 38-25, lead.

RIC shot 30.8 percent (8-for-26) in the half, while the Owls shot 35.7 percent (10-for-28).

Keene opened up the third quarter quickly, with a layup from junior forward Sarah Kober (Easthampton, MA) putting the Owls up 15, 46-31, with 4:56 remaining in the frame. A Moore trifecta trimmed the deficit down to 11, 49-38, but four straight points by Purcell to close the quarter sent the Owls into the final 10 minutes with a 53-38 lead.

Moore kept the Anchorwomen within striking distance in the final stanza, with a layup at the 4:42 mark trimming the Keene State lead down to 11, 56-45. Keene maintained their composure, with Purcell, D'Annolfo and Kober all making clutch free throws down the stretch to secure the 12-point, 70-58 victory for the hosts.

RIC shot 35.7 percent (20-for-56) from the field, 35.0 percent (7-for-20) from downtown and 84.6 percent (11-for-13) from the charity stripe. Moore's 13 points, six rebounds and five helpers led the way, while freshman forward Molly Phillips (Cranston, RI) (12 points) and Hill (11 points) also scored in double figures.

KSC shot 30.9 percent (17-for-55) from the field, 18.2 percent (4-for-22) from long range and 72.7 percent (32-for-44) from the free throw line. Purcell scored a game-high 21 points, while D'Annolfo narrowly missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Kober chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Keene held a 44-13 advantage in free throw attempts and  a 48-35 edge in rebounds for the game.
