Franklin Striving to Nail Down Third Place in HCAC with Game at Anderson

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College women's basketball team strives to continue building momentum for the postseason when it closes out the regular season with a road contest at Anderson University on Saturday, February 20, at 1 p.m. from Anderson, Indiana.

With a 13-4 record in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) games, the Grizzlies are tied for third place in the conference standings with Transylvania, following a 55-47 victory over the Pioneers on Wednesday night in the Spurlock Center.

Overall, Franklin stands 17-7 on the season.

Junior guard Lauren DeSutter (Pittsboro, Ind./Tri-West) scored a game-high 20 points in the key victory over Transylvania. She averages a team-high 12.4 points per game.

Senior forward Katie Brewer (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) is coming off a 12-point performance against Transylvania. She ranks second in rebounding among HCAC players, averaging 8.8 rebounds per contest.

Junior forward Sarah Taylor (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) scored 10 points off the bench on Wednesday, and recorded five rebounds. Classmate Kayle Comer (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) is averaging 9.5 points per game for the season. Comer has made a team-high 39 three-point field goals this winter.

Sophomore Kelsey Smith (Lexington, Ind./Scottsburg) and junior Emily Alfrey (Fairland, Ind./Triton Central) are averaging more than five points per game. Smith recorded a game-high six assists on Wednesday.

Following Saturday's game, the Grizzlies will then host a first-round HCAC tournament game against an opponent still to be determined. The postseason game will be played on Tuesday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m.
